Bayern Munich are reportedly targeting a £75 million (€88m) move for RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko this summer, despite strong interest from Arsenal in the 22-year-old Slovenian striker.

Should Bayern get their way and bring in one of the Bundesliga's top young strikers, Harry Kane may be forced to switch positions and play deeper. A role in the No. 10 position would be unfamiliar for Kane, but not completely alien.

Bayern's interest in Sesko began last summer, when the plan involving Kane was first drawn up. Interest looks set to be revamped this summer according to German newspaper Bild, amidst rumours that Sesko may be on the way to the Premier League.

Though he has rarely been explicitly used as a number 10 during his career, Kane's tendency to drop deep and link play with his strong passing range could mean that he may adapt well to the new role if Sesko is brought in to start up front. Kane would not be the first striker to drop deeper towards the end of his career, as former England teammate Wayne Rooney often played in a midfield role in his thirties.

From a Bayern point of view, Kane turns 32 in July and so the club may feel that it is important to set up a succession plan in the form of Sesko. While it is likely that England captain Kane still has a couple of years left playing at the top of his game, his club may feel they have no choice but to act fast as their top target nears a move elsewhere.

Kane has scored a massive 62 Bundesliga goals in two seasons with Bayern, following up the best goalscoring season of his career with another impressive return last campaign. In all competitions, Kane has 82 Bayern goals in 91 appearances and is likely to reach a century in both next season.

Sesko isn't yet as prolific as Kane but has 70 career goals in just six professional seasons, including 39 goals in two seasons at Leipzig. Should Bayern sign the Slovenian, they would boast two of the best strikers in Europe and present a scary proposition for opposition defences on all fronts as they look to defend their Bundesliga title and challenge for Champions League glory.

WHAT NEXT FOR KANE AND BAYERN?

Kane and Bayern Munich begin their Club World Cup campaign against Auckland City on Sunday, with Kane recently trying out boxing on Instagram as promotion for the tournament.

With the 2026 World Cup on the horizon, Kane will aim for another record-breaking season in front of goal no matter where he plays, as he hopes to continue leading the line for the Three Lions in North America next summer.
