The English Football League (EFL) has announced its shortlist for the 2024 awards, with just one Wrexham member making the cut for League Two. Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney favourite Elliot Lee is up for the Player of the Season award, alongside Notts County's Jodi Jones and Mansfield's Davis Keillor-Dunn, who used to play for Wrexham. That means that Parkinson was snubbed from the manager's shortlist despite leading the Red Dragons into contention for back-to-back promotions.

While Parkinson's efforts with Wrexham have not been recognised by the EFL – who instead have focused on the work done at second-placed Mansfield, fourth-placed MK Dons and sixth-placed Crewe – Lee has been honoured for his stellar campaign in Red. The 29-year-old has scored an impressive 15 goals this season, including late winners against Doncaster and Sutton, as well as laying on four assists. Lee has continued his fine form from the National League, which saw him play a vital role in Wrexham's title-winning campaign.

WHAT NEXT?

Lee will no doubt be in attendance when the 2024 EFL Awards get underway on Sunday April 14 at the league's annual ceremony in London. Winners of other gongs, such as the Sir Tom Finney Award, Contribution to League Football, Goal of the Season and Team of the Season will all be announced on the night.
